Mel Campbell is an experienced mental health clinician who has worked with children and families for over fifteen years. She has worked in a diverse range of contexts, including hospital inpatient, community mental health, early years education, and crisis response services. In these various roles, she has worked with infants, children, teenagers and adults within multidisciplinary teams. She has been involved in educating future occupational therapists and health professionals at a tertiary level, and has provided supervision to emerging therapists in the mental health field.

Mel uses a range of integrated therapeutic modalities including family therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mentalization based treatment, cognitive behaviour therapy, narrative therapy, interactive drawing therapy and parallel parent child narrative work. Her work is informed by attachment and trauma research, an occupational perspective of health, psychodynamic approaches to psychotherapy and a holistic view of children’s health and wellbeing in the context of family, community and culture.

Mel’s approach with families starts with understanding the complexity of issues that every family experiences around feeding and eating difficulties, acknowledging that all families have made many attempts to problem solve before seeking outside help. Mel works in an authentic and creative way that puts children and parents at ease, and aims to leave them feeling confident and empowered. She works alongside families to build resilience, strengthen relationships and ease the distress that so many families experience around eating and feeding.
